A news release from the Front Street campus issued on December 1, 2022 announced the university and community college have begun to explore “the potential for significantly enhancing our existing partnerships by developing new integrations between the two institutions.”

There are already some partnerships in place. For example, right now, B.C.C. students can take some courses with their credits transferred to four-year programs at B.U. and have a fast-track for transfers to the University.

Officials say as the talks are in the initial stages right now, there are already some ground rules being set.  Officials say it’s paramount that SUNY’s Broome Open Access mission would remain part of any enhanced relationship between the two  State University of New York institutions.

The community college’s position could be strengthened through the additional resources provided by the full four-year institution while the already established relationship between B.C.C. and regional employers and the community can remain and be enhanced.

Officials say they hope to help students better achieve their academic and professional goals by opening the door to more opportunities while creating new efficiencies and synergies between the administrative teams in Vestal and the Town of Dickinson.

More details about the talks may come after the holidays with the information updates coordinated between SUNY Broome and Binghamton University.

Meanwhile, as the news release about the potential integrations states the proposed new structure would keep all jobs intact, there is already one position that is seeing a change in 2023.  Earlier this year, SUNY Broome President, Dr. Kevin Drumm announced his plans to retire next July.
