Troop C Write 1,540 Speeding Tickets During New York Speed Week
The 2nd Speed Week of 2026 for New York State law enforcement was August 3rd through the 9th.
During this statewide effort, New York State Troop C participated, targeting speeders and aggressive drivers, as well as focusing on New York’s “Move Over” Law and proper seatbelt use throughout the enforcement period.
NYS Troop C encompasses the counties of Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Delaware, Cortland, Tompkins, and Otsego.

From August 3rd through the 9th, 1,540 tickets were issued for speeding and 11 speeding violations in work zones throughout the Troop C counties. In addition, there were 150 tickets handed out for violations of the Move Over Law and 128 tickets for seatbelt violations; 44 of those were children who were not properly restrained, according to the news release.
According to NYS Troop C, this latest Speed Week resulted in an increase in several categories as compared to the first effort during the week of June 8th through June 14th.
That week's result totals included 1,187 speeding tickets, including 50 in work zones, 96 tickets for Move Over Law violations, and 131 seatbelt violations; 15 of which involved children who were not properly restrained.
New York State Police note that speeding continues to be a major factor in fatal crashes across New York State. Speed-related fatalities totaled 315 in New York State in 2024, according to the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research at the University at Albany.
New York State Troopers used marked and unmarked State Police vehicles, including Troop C’s Mustang and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement vehicles during the latest Speed Week.
