It’s almost primary day in New York… again.

Early voting in an unprecedented second primary election in the state begins August 13, 10 days before the Congressional and State Senate in-person party votes.

Due to redistricting and accusations of gerrymandered line-drawing, the vote for the new Congressional districts was pushed back to August 23.  The General Election, of course, is still November 8. Today’s the last day to change your party affiliation.

The western Southern Tier’s new 23rd congressional district is among the regions where registered Republicans and Democrats will be selecting their preferred candidates.   There is also a special election in the district on the 23rd since Congressman Tom Reed resigned earlier this year.  Republican Joe Sempolinski and Democrat Max Della Pia are fighting for the right to serve out the remainder of the term. Republican Party Chairman Nick Langworthy and Far-right conservative and former Gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino are running in the primary for the congressional seat.

In the 19th district, that includes Broome, Democrat Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan and Republican Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro are looking to fill out the remainder of now-Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado’s term while Democrats Josh Riley and Jamie Cheney are looking to win the nod to run for the full term in the 19th District against Molinaro. The special election to fill the final four months of Delgado’s congressional term is on the old district boundaries while the primary is for the newly drawn 19th district.
