A piece of New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding to Tioga County has helped an Owego business to open and provide a way for other properties to be refreshed and renewed.

Home Central held the grand opening of a new kitchen and bath show room and design center in Owego on Tuesday, August 2.

The showroom in an over century-old building at the corner of Fox Street and Central Avenue is the result of a major fix-up to the old building itself.

In a news release announcing the August 2nd grand opening, Home Central said the location gives the community the chance to keep business in the area and make the home improvement process easier.

There had been a huge increase in interest in home improvement and building projects most recently during the pandemic as people were locked down and noticing all the work that could be done on their surroundings, both on the inside and outside their homes and businesses.

The center offers a design center where homeowners and contractors can tour cabinet styles and finishes, countertops, windows, flooring, siding and doors.

The New York State Revitalization Initiative in Owego has been targeted at making substantial improvements to an area of Tioga County that had been hit hard by the historic flooding of 2011.

Managers at the Fox Street business say having the showroom and design center available in Owego could serve as a resource that will help keep all aspects of home improvement and building in the community instead of being outsourced for services and materials outside of the Southern Tier.
