A Port Crane family is homeless after fire burned their house to the ground overnight November 10. Firefighters found the house at 164 Dumas Hill Road in Port Crane in the Town of Fenton fully engulfed in flames when they arrived at around 9 p.m.

Broome County Emergency Services operators say they had received no reports from the scene of any injuries.

Firefighters from Port Crane, Chenango Bridge and Five Mile Point responded with several pumper tankers brought in to the rural location to provide water to the fire scene.  The firefighters were joined by fire investigators, Emergency Medical Services and New York State Electric and Gas.

The very first unit arriving on the scene from the Port Crane Fire Department reported 90 percent of the structure was already “gone.” Video taken from the scene shows only a smoking foundation remaining on the heavily wooded property.

Emergency Services officials did not have any information this morning regarding whether anyone was home at the time, how many people live at the home and where it’s believed the fire may have started.  It was also not reported who had called the blaze in to the authorities.

Firefighters were on the scene for several hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The house appears to be a single-family home. An online search of the address shows little in the way of landmarks around the location.  Dumas Hill Road is located off Ballyhack Road and transitions into Youngs Road and intersecting with Pleasant Hill Road.
