The Governors of both New York and Pennsylvania are urging residents to be mindful of the weather as what is left of Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to sweep through the region with moderate to heavy rain and strong winds into Saturday, November 12.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s office says the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Emergency Management Agency have been preparing and residents should be on alert for flooding on roadways and in low-lying areas.

PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian says “Our crews have been preparing for days by clearing out debris around drainage inlets and under bridges while readying equipment.”

She reminds motorists not to drive on roads that are covered since even shallow, swiftly flowing water can sweep a car away.

Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency Director Randy Padfield says, based on current forecasts, widespread flooding was not expected but motorists should be aware of the possibility of water across roads and plan out several routes to get to their destination.

Commonwealth officials yesterday said they were expecting heaviest rain in the northwest region of the state with between four and six increase and much of Pennsylvania getting between two and four inches.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul says anyone planning travel today and Saturday should use caution and check local weather conditions before heading out.

The Governor’s office says the largest rainfall totals of two to three inches are expected in Central New York, the Finger Lakes and Western New York regions along with the Tug Hill plateau.

Winds were expected to gust up to 40 miles per hour with higher windspeeds expected downstate.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service office in Binghamton is calling for up to three-quarters of an inch of rain today with wind gusts up to 24 miles per hour and up to two inches of rain overnight with wind gust up to 29 miles per hour.
