According to the press release, approximately 14,000 of the 75,000 people that fled to the United States are living in New York. The funds will come through the federal government's Uniting for Ukraine program, which helps displaced Ukrainians stay in the United States for up to two years. The new funding will go to 17 refugee services providers in New York and to support employment assistance, case management, skills training, English as a second language, and if necessary, housing and food assistance.

"We are proud to continue to welcome those who have been forced to flee their homeland by the ongoing and unjust violent attack by Russia," said Governor Hochul. "As the home to the largest Ukrainian population in the United States, New York will remain unwavering in our support of the people of Ukraine. This federal funding is crucial to enabling refugee services providers to properly assist Ukrainian families as they adjust to a new life here in New York State."

Among the organizations receiving funds is the American Civic Association in Binghamton, which will receive $300,000 to support Ukrainian refugees. Funds will also be provided to three organizations in Syracuse, two in Rochester, and one in Utica.

Governor Hochul also announced the launch of a new website with resources for displaced Ukrainians and different ways for New Yorkers to help support them.
