Another amenity is in the works for a recently-upgraded Broome County park.

Several new features were added to Grippen Park in the village of Endicott as part of a $4.3 million makeover project.

One thing that was not included in the improvement plans was a dog park. But the county now is moving forward to address that issue.

County Executive Jason Garnar said residents who live in the neighborhood around Grippen have indicated they're happy with the improvements that were made at the park. But, he said, some have told him that there's one thing that's missing and that is a dog park.

Garner told WNBF News that the county now is making plans to build such a facility at Grippen this year. The exact location of the dog park has yet to be determined.

A couple of canines and their human companions reacted enthusiastically when a reporter informed them of the planned dog park.

On another Grippen Park matter, Garnar said he's pleased with the response to the opening of a new ice skating rink at the site. He said 2,800 people have used the facility since it opened in mid-December.

Garnar said the county intends to continue operating the Grippen rink for "as long as it's cold to keep it open."
