It’s a day full of carousel fun in Johnson City at the Carousel Day hosted by the Johnson City Rotary on July 23 but the Endwell Rotary Club has its own merry-go-round event happening on Sunday, July 24.

The club in the Town of Union has announced purchase of a Wurlitzer 146 Band Organ for use at the Highland Park Carousel.

According to a news release from the Endwell Rotary, the organ is similar to the original instrument that was purchased along with the carousel itself.

The carousel’s new Wurltzer will be dedicated at Highland Park at noon Sunday, July 24.  The timing is not by chance. July 24 is one day before National Carousel Day.

Donations from the estate of long-time member Nick Lignini and the community have partially underwritten the cost.

There will be more chances, literally to help, with the purchase of raffle tickets and sponsorships.

The Rotary says a plaque will be developed at the park to display the names of the sponsors.

In addition to a chance to celebrate National Carousel Day, the Rotary Club is able to have this special project to help celebrate their upcoming 70th anniversary coming up in 2024.  In a flashback, the club’s charter project was to develop a park in Endwell, which became Highland Park.

The Endwell rotary is planning a second 70th anniversary project. That will be the repair and expansion of the trail system at highland park.

Club President, Eric Emerick has been working with Delta Engineering to develop a plan while the club and the Town of Union are looking for funding for three phases of the project.
