Representatives of the Broome County Bureau of Fire Investigation did not immediately return a call seeking information about the case.

Endicott fire chief Joseph Griswold on Monday afternoon said county fire investigators had not apprised him of a possible cause. He said he had not been aware that the arson reward posters had been placed at the scene.

The signs state a cash reward is being offered by the Broome County Fire Chiefs Association "for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the arson." The phone number for the county arson hotline is (607) 778-1300.

Although the house was heavily damaged, Griswold said it has not been ordered demolished. He said that will be up to the owners and their insurance company.

The fire chief said an order to tear down a damaged structure could be issued if it were deemed to be posing an imminent safety hazard.
