The 17-year-old operator of the vehicle that slammed into a fence resulting in the death of a Vestal High School student faces felony charges.

Authorities late Friday afternoon announced the driver involved in the Thanksgiving Day crash on Clayton Avenue has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Vestal police would not release the name of the driver, who also faces three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment. The operator has been charged with driving while ability impaired, refusal to submit to a pre-screen device, reckless driving, speeding, operating out of class and two counts of failure to wear a seatbelt.

Investigators said Kadin Abdullah of Vestal, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained traumatic injuries in the crash, which occurred around 1:15 a.m. November 24. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It was his 18th birthday.

According to a police department news release, the driver of the vehicle was arraigned on the charges around 2:30 p.m. Friday in the youth part of Broome County Court.

No additional details about the crash have been provided by investigators.
