Delta Posts New Flight Schedule for Binghamton Airport
There's some new information about the service Delta Air Lines plans to offer from the Greater Binghamton Airport starting this spring.
Nearly three weeks ago, Broome County officials expressed relief after learning Delta was not permanently leaving the market. But no one could provide details about future service.
The company on December 30 revealed it planned to eliminate its daily flight between Binghamton and Detroit after mid-February.
At the time, County Executive Jason Garnar and aviation commissioner Mark Heefner indicated discussions would continue with Delta "to re-establish passenger service as soon as possible."
Now, Delta Air Lines has posted a schedule indicating a daily flight between Binghamton and Detroit will be restored starting May 7.
That means there will be no scheduled commercial air service out of the Greater Binghamton Airport for nearly three months after Delta's February 14 flight to Detroit.
The new schedule shows the daily flight is to depart Binghamton at 2:20 p.m., about 15 minutes earlier than the current flight, which is to be dropped after February 14.
There has been no detailed explanation as to why Delta reversed course regarding its planned curtailment of service at the Greater Binghamton Airport.
The company issued a vague statement indicating it decided to "restart" Binghamton service "following a review of our fleet allocation strategy."
Broome County officials have declined to offer insights into what's been going on behind the scenes.
During a WNBF News interview last week, County Executive Garnar said "we're very, very happy" that Delta planned to resume service this spring.
Garnar said the county was "in some really good conversations with other airlines about other service that I'm really excited about."
