The simultaneous development of two long-awaited Chick-fil-A restaurants in Broome County is moving forward.

Fans of the Georgia-based purveyor of chicken sandwiches and related fare have been anticipating the opening of the first Binghamton-area locations.

One is to operate on the former Key Bank site at the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City. The other is to be built on the site the ill-fated Storming Crab eatery at the Town Square Mall in Vestal.

The owners of the Oakdale Commons have said the bank site is to be ready for the Chick-fil-A developers by March 1. The Key Bank closed in October and the building was demolished a few weeks later.

In a Thursday email to WNBF News, Marc Newman of Spark JC, which owns the Commons, said "we don't anticipate any delays."

Newman has previously indicated he believes the Johnson City restaurant could be in operation by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, there's has yet to be any activity at the Town Square Mall site in Vestal. It's unclear when the old restaurant building will be torn down.

A spokesperson for Brixmor Property Group, which owns the Vestal property, said the "project is still progressing through its early planning work."

In an email statement, the spokesperson said the "overall timeline remains on track and we anticipate opening before the end of year."

A Chick-fil-A spokesperson acknowledged a WNBF News inquiry about the Johnson City and Vestal locations on Thursday but was not able to provide immediate timeline information.
