A 35-year-old Nineveh man has been convicted of nine charges in connection with the shooting of a New York state trooper.

Prosecutors say Jason Johnson was found guilty Monday by a Broome County Court jury.

State trooper Becky Seager was shot in the hip on East Windsor Road in the town of Colesville on June 9, 2021.

Authorities say Johnson fired upon police with a high-powered hunting rifle.

Johnson faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Judge Joseph Cawley scheduled sentencing for November 28.

Police had said Johnson drove away from the scene after Seager was shot. Hundreds of law enforcement officers were called to the area in the effort to find the shooter.

Investigators said tips helped police apprehend Johnson along the Susquehanna River near Route 79 the afternoon following the shooting.

Seager was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment of her injuries. She had been with the state police for seven years at the time of the shooting.

Seager stayed at the hospital overnight. Several state troopers greeted her the following day as she was discharged and went home.
