According to city police, the woman was a 23-year-old Binghamton resident. The cause of death was ruled to be suicide. Investigators determined there was "no criminality involved."

People were not permitted to enter the Hawley Street parking garage for a short time after emergency crews arrived at the scene.

The death occurred two days after a fatal assault occurred at the Salvation Army Center for Worship and Service, which is located on Washington Street, next door to the garage.

57-year-old Kevin L. Ray of Endicott died after he was repeatedly stabbed in the neck and shoulder.

Police said 37-year-old Michael W. Brutvan of Binghamton was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the attack, which occurred during a community dinner.

If you are having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
