A sign for a new downtown Binghamton restaurant has been put in place after a city commission delayed giving its approval.

Mark Yonaty said he "never thought there'd be a problem" with the sign he had designed and made for the business planned for the Lackawanna Train Station.

Members of the Commission on Architecture and Urban Design tabled a measure to authorize the sign at this month's meeting but they all indicated they liked it and felt it was appropriate for the historic building.

Yonaty told WNBF News he sent an email to inform the city the sign would be installed. He said he received no acknowledgment.

The sign now has been up for more than a week and Yonaty has heard nothing from the city. He said "I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad sign."

Yonaty has been working for years to develop a restaurant in the former train station on Lewis Street, just west of Mirabito Stadium.

Construction crews are continuing to work on renovations in the west end of the building, where the restaurant will be located. The interior work is expected to be completed by the end of next month.

Yonaty doesn't know when Station 45 will be ready to open its doors.
