Locally-Owned Binghamton Gym Opening Salt Sauna
A fitness center in downtown Binghamton is preparing to open a custom-designed salt sauna facility.
Planning for the project at JOG33 Downtown began about a year ago. Construction of the Himalayan pink salt sauna took about six months to complete.
Owen Blye, who owns the gym at 33 Court Street, expects people in the area will be interested in checking out the new feature because of the potential health benefits of such saunas.
The facility has two side-by-side saunas - one for men, the other for women. It's scheduled to open on Wednesday.
Blye said salt saunas have been gaining popularity in recent years. A control panel permits users to adjust the temperature of the sauna. The length of sauna sessions can vary, although a session usually lasts 50 to 60 minutes.
Blye opened JOG33 Downtown in August 2022. He said there's a 200-member cap to help maintain a boutique feel at the gym.
