Binghamton's Court Street now has two legal marijuana shops with the opening of a new store in a former A&W restaurant location.

Cotton Mouth Dispensary received final authorization from the state Office of Cannabis Management on Monday.

Daron and Regina Driscoll of Elmira had faced a series of unexpected delays in launching the business at 439 Court Street.

The building has been vacant since the A&W fast-foot shop shut down in February 2018. The restaurant was in business for less than two years before it was closed.

The Driscolls spent a long time going through the state licensing process to open the cannabis retail operation.

They had hoped to get things started just before Thanksgiving before there was a legal snag due to a court challenge that was unrelated to their license application.

Speaking inside the just-opened shop, Daron Driscoll said he was pleased Cotton Mouth was finally operating.

Driscoll said the business will hold its "grand opening" on Thursday.

The Cotton Mouth Dispensary drive-up window won't be open until later this month.

Customers who plan to use the window will be required to order and pay online. No drive-up purchases will be permitted.
