If you drive around the Town of Kirkwood, here’s a heads-up: Stratmill Road, which is owned and maintained by Broome County, will be closed starting Wednesday, June 18th.

The county’s Department of Public Works is set to rehabilitate a culvert near 308 Stratmill Road, and the work means no through traffic will be allowed during the project.

What to Expect During the Closure

The road closure kicks off at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18th and is expected to last until about 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd. So for just over two weeks, you won’t be able to use Stratmill Road in that section. The closure is necessary to make sure the culvert is properly fixed up and safe for the long haul.

Plan Your Route Ahead

If you normally take Stratmill Road to get around, you’ll want to plan ahead and find an alternate route. Broome County will have a clearly marked detour in place, so local traffic will be guided around the closure. Just follow the signs and give yourself a little extra time during your drive.

Keeping Kirkwood Moving Safely

Though road closures can be a hassle, these repairs are important for keeping the roads safe and reliable for everyone in the area. The Department of Public Works appreciates everyone’s patience while they work on this project.
