The fact that a woman chooses motherhood is remarkable because those of us who are mothers will tell anyone that although it is the single most gratifying thing in life, being a mother is not for the faint of heart.

Being a mother is the hardest job in the entire world. Negotiating with bad guys, making life or death decisions, and getting down in the trenches is nothing compared to raising children and the raising doesn't end when the children are grown. A mother never stops being a mother, no matter how old her babies are.

All mothers are deserving of the title of 'Mother of the Year' but for one Upstate New York mother, she has literally been crowned with that title.

Kate Boydston of Glenville, a small suburb not far from Albany, has been named the 60th woman in New York history to be given the title of New York Mother of the Year by American Mothers, Inc (AMI).

Boydston was named New York Mother of the Year in recognition of her ongoing service to her community, philanthropy, and to her family.

“The hard work and inspiration of mothers are being recognized now more than ever. It’s an honor to be part of an organization that’s connecting moms across the nation to celebrate motherhood and uplift their stories of resiliency and strength.” - Joyce Stevens, President of American Mothers, Inc.

The journey to motherhood has not been an easy one for Boydston who survived a placental abruption, a stay in the NICU, gestational diabetes, and postpartum anxiety and depression however, she had continued through it all to give it her all.

Boydston, a mother of two and current Mrs. New York American, is a maternal health advocate, and patient family partner. Along with her husband, Boydston founded #momsmaketime which encourages mothers to find time to take care of themselves.

Boydston will represent New York at the American Mothers national convention this spring where one honoree will be selected as the 2023 National Mother of the Year.
