Broome County Gears Up for Coaches vs. Cancer Kick-Off Breakfast
If you love basketball (like me) or you just like being part of cool community stuff, here’s something that you don't want to miss. The Mirabito Coaches vs. Cancer Boys’ Basketball Invitational is kicking things off with a breakfast party, and its sounds a great way to start the season.
It’s happening Wednesday, December 3rd at 10:30 in the morning at Chenango Valley High School. The idea is to bring everyone together before the big tournament later in the month.
Who’s Coming to Hang Out
This breakfast isn’t just pancakes and coffee. It’s packed with student athletes, coaches, sponsors, school leaders, and community members who just love this event. Last year the tournament raised almost forty thousand dollars for the American Cancer Society, so people are excited to come back and do it again.

There will be speakers including Dr. Larry Drake, Justin Cooper from Maximize Basketball, and Chris Evans, the head coach from Owego Free Academy. They’re all there to pump everyone up and remind people why this event matters.
Why This Tournament Is Such a Big Deal
This isn’t just any basketball tournament. It’s part of the national Coaches vs. Cancer program, which teams up the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The goal is simple to use basketball to raise money, awareness and support families fighting cancer. It’s the kind of event where the games are fun, but the purpose behind it is a slam dunk.
Want to Stay in the Loop
If you want updates about teams, game schedules, or anything else, the group keeps everything posted online. There’s a public Facebook group called “Mirabito Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Tournament” and an Instagram page at @MirabitoCoachesVsCancer.
Here are the scheduled games for Saturday, December 27th and Sunday, December 28th. I hope to see you at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena for great basketball for an even better cause.
