Event Details

Saint Joe Winery, a charming family-owned and operated winery nestled in the woods of Northeast Pennsylvania, is the setting for the Groundhog Day Party and Meatloaf Cook-Off on Saturday, February 1 at 4:00 p.m.

Located just 6 miles south of Vestal, NY, 11 miles north of Lawton, PA, and 10 miles northwest of Montrose, PA, the winery offers a convenient location. To find Saint Joe Winery, simply follow the instructions from the intersection of Route 267 and North Road, turning onto North Road for 3/10 of a mile, and then onto Johnson Road. After traveling for half a mile, you will arrive at the winery, with the last leg of the journey being on an unpaved road so keep that in mind if conditions are extra snowy.

Groundhog Day History

In addition to the Meatloaf Cook-Off, this event coincides with the Groundhog Day tradition. The history of Groundhog Day can be traced back to its roots in Christianity, and has since transformed into the elaborate Punxsutawney festivities celebrated today.

In 1886, Groundhog Day garnered a mention in the local newspaper of Punxsutawney, marking the inception of a tradition that has gained momentum with each passing year. The first official journey to Gobbler's Knob took place the following year, solidifying the cultural significance of this event.
