Winter weather is here in New York and if you live toward Buffalo or Erie, you could see up to 6 feet...that's right, FEET of snow this weekend. In the Southern Tier, we won't get near that much but we have seen up to four feet of snow.

You've heard that it's a law in New York that you have to clean the snow and ice off of your car roof before you travel. Actually your supposed to clear off all the snow and if you own a truck, you have to clean the snow out of the bed.

Here is what I could find about cleaning the snow and ice off of your vehicle.

Clean The Snow And Ice Off Your Car New York Law

S 1229-E. CLEARANCE OF SNOW, SLEET, AND HAIL.
1. NO PERSON SHALL OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE ON A PUBLIC STREET OR HIGHWAY WHILE THERE IS AN ACCUMULATION OF SNOW, SLEET, OR HAIL ON THE ROOF OR CARGO BED SURFACES THEREOF, WHETHER OF ANY OCCUPANT COMPARTMENT, TRAILER, OR OTHER CARGO COMPARTMENT IN EXCESS OF THREE INCHES.
2. THE REMOVAL OF ACCUMULATED SNOW, SLEET, OR HAIL REQUIRED BY SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS SECTION SHALL NOT APPLY DURING THE FALLING OF SNOW, SLEET, OR HAIL OR WITHIN THREE HOURS AFTER THE CESSATION OF THE FALLINGTHEREOF.
3. (A) THE OPERATOR OF A NON-COMMERCIAL VEHICLE IN VIOLATION OF THE
PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION, EXCLUDING A DISABLED OPERATOR, SHALL BE
SUBJECT TO A FINE OF NOT LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS NOR MORE THAN EIGHT HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS.

Even if it wasn't a law, it's not a bad idea to remove the snow. It helps your vision and the last thing that you want to do is have the snow fly off of your vehicle. If the snow happens to hit the car behind you, that could cause an accident and you would ultimately have to pay for it.

Now that we know we have to get rid of the snow and ice before we leave, what next?  That sounds like a simple question but if you don't know what your doing it can make for an arduous task.

Quick Way To Clean The Snow And Ice Off Your Car

Clearing the snow off your car windows, hood, lights and roof is essential so that you don't get a ticket. What did you think when you see someone ahead of you with piles of snow on their vehicle?

You probably don't want that same person thinking the same thoughts about you, if your car isn't properly cleaned. I found a video from Modern Motoring that may help you to quickly and safely remove the snow.

The name sounds official enough (Modern Motoring) and it looks like they are having a good time. Here is their free advice on how to clean the car but I don't know if I would use a broom on the hood.
