Broome County High-Speed Chase Ends in Dramatic Arrests
A late-night traffic stop attempt turned into a multi-county pursuit on Thursday, February 26, 2026, according to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office
Deputies reported that at approximately 9:58 p.m., they observed a white Infiniti G35 traveling eastbound on State Route 17 in the Town of Vestal at a high rate of speed. The vehicle matched the description of a car reported stolen in Binghamton and was seen swerving between other vehicles.
When deputies activated their emergency lights and sirens, the driver did not stop. Instead, authorities say the vehicle accelerated to speeds exceeding 120 miles per hour.

Pursuit Crosses Multiple Jurisdictions
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Department, the pursuit continued east on Route 17 through Binghamton before heading north on Interstate 81 into the Town of Chenango. The driver then traveled east on Interstate 88 through Fenton into Colesville, exiting onto State Route 7.
Officials say the vehicle abruptly turned, skidded, and reversed direction before continuing through several local roads, including Nowlan Road, Stratmill Road, Old State Road, Loughlin Road, Court Street, and back onto Interstate 81.
Deputies eventually deployed spike strips as the vehicle returned to Route 17 westbound in Johnson City. After reportedly losing a tire, the suspect exited onto Harry L Drive and drove into the parking lot at 560 Harry L Drive.
Suspect Captured After High-Speed Chase
The pursuit ended in the parking lot near the Food & Fire restaurant. Authorities say the driver attempted to evade patrol vehicles by maneuvering through parking spaces and around buildings before being surrounded by law enforcement.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Romario M. Robinson of Binghamton, complied with verbal commands and was taken into custody. Investigators later determined that the vehicle’s identification number had been tampered with and swapped out in multiple locations on the car.
Bystander Interferes and Is Arrested
While Robinson was being taken into custody, authorities say a restaurant employee, 28-year-old Shelby J. Medovich of Harpursville, exited the restaurant and approached the vehicle. Law enforcement reports that she ignored repeated commands and attempted to interfere with the investigation. Medovich was taken into custody.
Investigators later determined she was Robinson’s partner and had registered the stolen vehicle in her name.
Felony Charges for Both Suspects
Robinson faces multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 2nd Degree, three counts of Illegal Possession of a Vehicle Identification Number, along with several misdemeanors and traffic violations.
Medovich faces similar felony charges, including Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, as well as additional misdemeanor charges. Both individuals were processed and arraigned before being released on their own recognizance.
Multiple Law Enforcement Agencies Involved
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Johnson City Police, and the Endicott Police Department in bringing the pursuit to a close.

Sheriff Fred Akshar commended deputies for safely coordinating the pursuit and reiterated that there are consequences for those who choose to flee law enforcement.
