We've been very fortunate in November, the weather has been warmer then normal...at least, it feels like it is to me. However it looks like it could change this weekend with temperatures falling into the 30's with a chance of snow on Sunday, November 13th.

Most of us have been playing the "How long can I keep the heat off" game. With fuel prices rising and temperatures falling, it'll be about time to give in and fire up the furnace or whatever else you use to keep warm.

Ways To Save Energy This Winter

Here are some simple things that we can do to help keep the costs down:

When the weather begins to get cold, set your thermostat at 68 degrees during the day and 60 degrees at night. It also helps if you have a timer that you can set on your thermostat when you leave for the day.

No reason to heat the whole house while everyone is away. Set your thermostat at a lower level while your gone and set it to start rising again about a half hour before the first person comes home.

Reduce trips to the refrigerator. It's not the trips that will cost you but the opening of the door...again and again. Every time that you open the door, up to 30% of the cold air can escape.

A touch screen refrigerator with see through door could also be the answer. I can't be the only one that passes by the refrigerator, opens it up and expect to see something new in it since the last time that I went by. Didn't think so.

Remove lint from the dryer filter. I have to admit that this has never crossed by mind. i know that it's a good thing to do because it can help to prevent a house fire. A dirty lint filter can increase the energy used by 30%.

With energy prices rising with no end in sight any time soon, we all need to do what we can to get by while keeping warm in our homes. Here are some other ways to spend less and save more.
