The Binghamton Black Bears Set Two Records On ‘Teddy Bear Toss Night’
The 2022 Teddy Bear Toss with the Binghamton Black Bears was one for the record book...in two ways. In case you missed it, on Friday night, December 10th, all fans were encouraged to bring a teddy bear or stuffed animal to the Binghamton Black Bears game.
When the Black Bears scored their first goal, we were all supposed to toss the teddys and stuffed animals onto the ice. All of the bears and stuffed animals would be donated to the Child Advocacy Center at the Crime Victims Assistance Center.
The Binghamton Black Bears were encouraging EVERYONE to bring a teddy bear or two to the game and try to break the FPHL record for most stuffed animals on the ice. The record was between 900 and 1,000, so they hoped to get at least 1,000.
Two Records Were Broken At Teddy Bear Toss With The Binghamton Black Bears
The Binghamton Black Bears were hoping to set one record but instead they got two for the price of one. The first record they set was the fastest goal on Teddy Bear Toss Night. I'm guessing in all of hockey, not just in the FPHL. Check it out for yourself.
12 seconds into the game, they scored the first (of 6) goals and the bears/stuffed animals came raining down from everywhere. The fans were ready and the Bears jumped in one of the piles like it was leaves.
That was record #1 and here's record #2.When they were all counted, they broke the 1,000 bear mark...to the tune of 1,267 total stuffed bears and animals. While the Black Bears defeated Delaware 6-3, the true winners will be the kids it helps at the Crime Victims Assistance Center.
The Black Bears return to the ice Friday night at 7 p.m. for Summer in December against the Watertown Wolves. I'll be doing Chuck-A-Puck between the 2nd and 3rd period.
