One of the reasons I love fall is the apples. There is just something warm and fuzzy about munching on apples this time of year. my favorite way to eat them? Candied or caramelized.

Is there much of a difference? History-wise there is a big difference.

The candy apple came long before the caramel apple. In 1908, William Kolb of New Jersey was experimenting with cinnamon candy and decided to dip an apple in it. The result was a wildly popular Christmas season treat.pretty soon, the treat was sold everywhere.

It wasn't until the 1950's that the caramel apple was created! Kraft Foods employee Dan Walker, who liked candy apples, was just liked William Kolb, experimenting with Christmas candy. Walker was a big fan of candy apples and thought he would dip an apple in the caramel that was left over after Halloween sales ended.

Kraft capitalized on the Walker discovery by putting the recipe on caramel packages. Naturally, caramel apples began popping up everywhere.

I found a great recipe for Halloween themed candy apples. Enjoy!
