I took a trip back home to New Jersey this weekend. Luckily, my Father's area was barely touched by Hurricane Sandy. But what I heard and saw elsewhere was overwhelming.

Thousands of people are still without power and basic necessities. Downed trees are keeping utilities from turning electricity back on and people are exhausted. Some who had services restored where blacked out again by the Nor'easter.

Now for the good news (and one I am very proud of!): our Townsquare Media sister station, New Jersey 101.5 is working incredibly hard to help. They are pairing residents who need help with those willing to. And they have set up the most comprehensive list of how to help and get help so that we can even help.

Many of us up here are transplants from NJ, have enjoyed the Jersey Shore or have relatives there, so this information is helpful. Visit Restore NJ on their website.

Governor Christie has teamed with NJ 101.5 to start a relief fund where 100% of the funds go directly to storm victims. That's right, one hundred percent! Those details are also on the site.

I feel proud to know how New Jerseyans are helping each other and, as we know how hard it is to get through the first months of recovery, every ounce of support and experience we can give them will restore the storm areas faster.

Now on to the second area in desperate need. The place where my Grandmother was raised and where i have many friends: Staten Island, Queens and Long Island.

It is difficult to get resources in there, so recovery is lagging severely. In Staten Island, an Iraqi war veteran is leading the charge for Islanders. But they need more, as do those in Queens and parts of Long Island. I am told by locals there, that the United Way and the Red Cross are helping tremendously to provide help. So please reach out them if you would like to donate.

I hope none of us ever have to endure this type of disaster again, but thank goodness we always pull together if they do.  Thank you Southern Tier!
