Thanksgiving used to mark the beginning of the Christmas selling-season. Then a few silver baubles, frosted windows and modest Christmas trees started showing up as early as Halloween. Now the holiday decorations are now going up before Halloween.
Why? Because it works.
According to the National Retail Federation, nearly 40 percent of all holiday shoppers say they begin their holiday shopping before Halloween.
"You won't see retailers' official advertising and marketing campaigns begin in earnest until November, but they do put out tree trimmings and other decor well before that for those early bird shoppers."
