The Binghamton Bearcats suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Maine Black Bears on the second day of the America East Softball Championship Tournament at the Bearcats Sports Complex.  In a rain-delayed game the Blacks Bears defeated Binghamton 4-3 on a walk-off  two-run home run by third baseman Alyssa Derrick in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Maine entered the tournament as a fourth seed while the Bearcats were a fifth seed so Maine was considered the home team with last at-bats.

The Bearcats took a 3-2 lead into the inning and pitcher Chelsea Howard got two quick strikes on Derrick before she hammered the home run just to the right of centerfield. Binghamton had taken the 3-2 lead on Jessica Rutherford's RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Maine victory avenged an opening day 3-1 loss to the Bearcats.  Earlier in the day Albany downed the Bearcats 9-0. Maine advances to meet Stony Brook this (Friday) afternoon at 1:30.  Play begins at 11 A.M. as number one seed Albany meets number two seed UMass Lowell.  The third game of the day is scheduled for 4 P.M. with the loser of the first game meeting the winner of the second game.

The championship will be decided on Saturday with the first pitch slated for noon. This marks the third consecutive season that Binghamton University is hosting the America East tournament.
