Well this is a fine kettle of fish you have gotten us into, Laurel!

I have learned through WBNG TV Action Sports, that Greene High School has suspended head football coach, Tim Paske, indefinitely.

According to WNBG.com, Paske said he could not discuss the reasons why, and that those questions could be answered by the superintendent. Last evening a call by Action Sports to the Greene Superintendent was not answered.

Unofficially, and very unofficially... The story conveyed to me, and spreading through home after home in the district is as follows....

That coach Paske was suspended indefinitely because he gave his football team the option of either, walking in the homecoming parade last Friday Nite, before the game with Newark Valley, or not. The team voted NO.

I do not know whether the talk in the town is true or not, but you can find out more by heading to the  Greene High School Auditorium tonight at 7pm.

Now my opinion....
Who in their right mind would make a sports team, ANY sports team, break from the usual routine of preparing for a game?  If I were the coach of that team, I would not have given that team the option, it would have been a flat out 'WE AIN'T DOIN IT'!

I understand the whole community spirit thing. I get the fact that small towns rally around there sports teams. I'm from Chenango Forks and played on some very, VERY good football teams and for coaches who were the absolute best. It was allowed that a player who was in homecoming court could take part in the half time homecoming ritual. But themn it was right back to the locker room to prepare for the 2nd half.

Never in my wildest thoughts would a team be required to take part in the homecoming parade, unless the parade/festivities were the day before the game.  Just as a baseball player respects a streak, a football team should never, EVER deviate from it's game day rituals.

If Paske disobeyed a higher directive, I get the suspension. The school board can save face and make it a one game suspension. Hand slapped, Coach can be back on the sideline for the Norwich game in 2-weeks.

Do you think the players should have participated in the parade... or not? Or was this even the issue?
