Let's head back to August 25th 1949. The place - Israel. A future rock star was born. That rock star is Chaim Witz, better known as Gene Simmons.

He spent the first eight years in Israel and then relocated to New York City with his mother. His music career did not begin until after he had tried his hand at other jobs including working for a fashion magazine and teaching.

Gene co-founded Kiss with Paul Stanley, but actually their first band together was Wicked Lester. They eventually quit the band and formed what was to become Kiss with Peter Criss, Ace frehley, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons.

For this weeks Classic Rock Throwback Thursday, let's say Happy Birthday to Gene Simmons and enjoy this live version of Kiss performing Detroit Rock City back in 1976.
