Food-A-Bago Food Drive For Broome County CHOW – Day Four Update
After each day of our annual Food-A-Bago Food Drive for Broome County CHOW, sponsored by Tall Pines Farm, Stoves and Fireplaces, I am giving you updates on our progress toward helping families in our county for the holiday season.
Thursday was day four of our food drive, and while visits picked up a bit from Wednesday, we still have plenty of room in the Jim's RV (from Nichols, NY) to fill with non-perishable food.
Ed Blaine, Director of Broome County CHOW stopped by today and during our conversations, we learned that the need is as great, if not greater than last year for assistance.
I would like to stress that these are not families just looking for a hand out, they are truly in need of a little help in the form of non-perishable food.
There are many families in this position who never thought they would be, from job loss to medical situations causing financial stress, to any other number of circumstances that have put them in their current situation.
We would like to thank everyone who have stopped by this week with a donation, and a special thanks to Girl Scout Troop 482 from Chenango Bridge Elementary for stopping by on Thursday with a lot of food for CHOW.
Thanks girls...great job!
Now on to some food items that you can drop off at our RV:
Soups, cereal, oatmeal, baby food and formula, dry and canned pastas, sauces, canned vegetables and fruits, nuts, juices, jello, raman noodles, basically anything that is non-perishable in box, bag, can or plastic containers.
Think "what would make a good, warm/hot meal", escpecially with the colder months upon us.
If you can spare just one item, we will be grateful.
Pick something up from the store, take something from your food pantry, or even donate cash or a grocery store gift card!
Get together with your family, friends or co-workers and pool your resources to gather up food.
We are now down to three and a half days left of Food-A-Bago, and this weekend will be a great time to stop by, say "hi" to us in the RV and drop off whatever you can.
You'll feel great about it and you will definitely help a family in Broome County.
Our Jim's RV is located in the parking lot of the Weis Food Market, Upper Front Street, Binghamton, right across form the I-81 entrance ramp.
We have radio personalities from 99.1 The Whale and WILD 104 at the RV, Friday from 5am to 7pm, Saturday from 9am to 7pm , Sunday from 9am to 7pm and finally Monday from 5am to 10am.
And if you are in the Whitney Point area, we have barrels set up for your donation at Green's Ace Home Center on Main Street, Whitney Point.
Thank you so much for your help and we'll see you at the RV!
