Endicott firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze that broke out in a home on the North Side of the village.

Authorities say the fire at 118 Robble Avenue was reported around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The two-story single-family house had been evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.

Off-duty firefighters were called into provide additional assistance at the scene.

According to a news release from Endicott fire chief Joseph Griswold, the fire was located in a second floor bedroom.

Fire damage was contained to the bedroom. There was some minor smoke damage elsewhere on the second floor of the home.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by "improperly discarded smoking material" which ignited a mattress.

No injuries were reported.

Griswold said the fire was prevented from spreading because the residents closed the bedroom door to contain the blaze to that area.
