In spite of objections from residents and the Chenango Valley School District as well as concerns voiced by Port Dickinson Mayor Kevin Burke, the Town of Fenton Planning Board is giving the thumbs up to developing a natural gas compressor station on the West Service Road next to the Port Dickinson Community Park.

The Board voted almost unanimously to approve the project that is expected to create 150 new jobs.

Opponents cited the large volume of trucks that would be passing through the area on a road used by school buses traveling between the high school and the elementary and middle schools, the closeness of the project to the Chenango River and to the park.

The station would fill natural gas containers to be delivered to customers.

Some environmental groups say they are looking for lawyers to launch legal action to stop the development.

NG Advantage plans to begin work on the project as soon as possible.
