Today February 15th we honor our US presidents with a special day to remember and reflect, do you have a favorite president?

Long before retail stores and car dealerships started their huge president’s day sales, there was a split between Washington’s birthday and Lincoln’s birthday.

In 1971 the third Monday in February was fixed to honor George Washington, which later became Presidents Day to honor all of our past commanders.

I was born on Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, so I have always had a special bond with him.

John F Kennedy was always someone I remember because I was just a little boy when he was killed, and I remember seeing the flag covered casket on TV as my favorite show Captain Kangaroo was not on that morning,

Both of the above mentioned had their share of important decisions and put their stamp on history.

FDR led this country through one of the most difficult times in America, that included the worst depression in US history, a vicious attack on our country, and a world war, while he pulled the country together with a plan he called ‘the New Deal’

Franklin Delano Roosevelt who was stricken with Polio served this country to his last dying breath.

I can’t imagine how frightened Americans were during those times, and the mark this man made on our history, and what he meant to those people.

He gets my vote as the greatest president in our 240 year history as a country.
