Open the Lid is Hosting a First-Ever Sensory-Friendly Open Mic Event called Open the Mic Friday, August 27th from 6-8 pm in the Multipurpose Room of the First Congregational Church in Ithaca.

We are Going to be Super Conscious of Sound, Volume, and Lights, Supply Sensory Tools, and Alternative Places for People to Take Breaks.

As Opposed to Most Open Mics in Bars With Lots of Extraneous Noise, We Aim to Create a More Sensory-Friendly, All-Ages Experience for Neurodivergent People and Allies.

Who: Neurodivergent People and Allies of All Ages- Performers and Audience
What: Sensory Friendly Open Mic Event- Open the Mic
When: Friday, August 27, 2021 6-8pm
Where: Multi-Purpose Room at First Congregational Church, 309 Highland Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850 (Great Parking and Accessible Entrance)

Create a place for individuals to share their talents in an inclusive, sensory-friendly environment
Build community
Share resources
How:
Interested performers sign up ahead of time with the name of their act and the equipment they need (i.e. microphone, plug for guitar, piano)

Performers and audience members wear masks, get their temperature checked, and sign a medical and or media release at the door

Individuals are invited to contribute a suggested donation of $5-$15 to cover costs at the door. No one will be turned away due to finances.

All participants will be invited to access the sensory tools on loan at the event and check out the other resources available from area resources.
