Crews from Vacri Construction Corporation have been working on the water supply interconnection project.

The village and town systems will be tied together by using an existing ten-inch transmission line beneath the Susquehanna River. The line, which was installed in 1929, hasn't been usable for many years.

Work on the project began in May in Vestal. Improvements were made to an existing valve vault site along Vestal Road.

Crews now are busy on the other side of the river, preparing for the installation of a prefabricated booster pump station just east of Union-Endicott High School.

The 40-foot by 12-foot prefab structure is to be shipped from Georgia. It's expected to arrive in Endicott by the end of the month.

The facility will be located off Club House Road near the Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome.

The project is expected to be substantially completed in September. Money for the $665,000 project was provided by the federal government.

Parts of the Endicott water supply were depressurized because of prolonged power outages following the 2011 flood. The new pumping station and restored interconnection will help keep the system operational during future storms.
