Skillet formed in 1996 as a Christian rock band in Tennessee. The only constant member in the band from their origin to present day is bassist and lead vocalist John Kooper who is now joined by his wife Korey Cooper on rhythm guitar, keyboards and backing vocals, Jen Ledger on drums and vocals and lead guitarist Seth Morrison.

The name Skillet came from the many different kinds of rock in which is formed under between the two original members John Cooper and Ken Steorts. The name is a kind of joke about throwing a bunch of things in a skillet to make something out of it. Ironically, John Cooper doesn't even like the name!

Skillet has received two Grammy nominations, released eight studio albums and are working on releasing their ninth in early 2013. The bands non stop touring schedule earned them the number 2 spot on Billboard.com's Hardest Working Bands of 2011. Even if you don't like them, you HAVE to respect them for that! Let me know what you think of their song "Awake and Alive" below.
