Eclectic Rock Pick of the Week: Dropkick Murphy’s

Dropkick Murphy's is a Celtic Punk band who is also referred to as Oi! or American Punk Rock. They originated in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1996 and have only had one consistent member since - Ken Casey- even though they music has stayed true to it's original formula. Influenced by their Irish background as children, they became accustomed to traditional Irish songs and did not realize the impact this would have on them until they started making music and it began to bleed through. At first resistant, they began to embrace the Celtic in them and continue to follow a musical formula much like
AC/DC does where they always sound like themselves, but try to deliver slightly different stories and challenges in each of their songs.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Dropkick Murphy's several times and even got to kiss the bagpipe player on the cheek! If you ever have the chance to see this band live, I highly recommend it. One of my goals on my bucket list is to eventually see them on St. Patrick's Day live in Boston. If you like to Irish skank, this band is for you!
