Cuomo to Trump: “Get Up and Go to Work”
President Donald Trump wants Governor Andrew Cuomo to spend less time "complaining" and more time "doing" when it comes to the coronavirus response.
Trump tweeted some advice to Cuomo Friday afternoon as the governor was conducting his daily news briefing.
The presidential message included: "Get out there and get the job done. Stop talking!"
Trump also wrote:"We have given New York far more money, help and equipment than any other state, by far." He said those "who did the job never hear you say thanks."
Responding to the president during the briefing, Cuomo said "if he's sitting home watching TV, maybe he should get up and go to work, right?"
The governor also asked: "What am I supposed to do, send a bouquet of flowers?" He noted he has repeatedly thanked the president for the federal government's efforts to assist New York state in responding to the crisis.
Cuomo said New York needs help to conduct the testing that will be needed to prepare for restarting the state's economy.
The governor started the daily briefing by announcing 630 people had died as a result of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours. That raised the total number of coronvirus deaths in New York state to 12,822.
