Downtown Binghamton Vietnamese Restaurant About to Make Debut
The wait is almost over for fans of Vietnamese cuisine who've been looking forward to the opening of a new restaurant in the heart of downtown Binghamton.
Pho Nomenal is expected to start operations within the next few weeks. The restaurant will be located on the State Street side of the 20 Hawley Street complex, which has student housing on the upper floors.
Nha Tran of Endicott is one of the owners of Pho Nomenal. She said she's "very excited" that the restaurant is almost ready to open.
Tran was a partner in Phuong Nam, a Vietnamese restaurant that had operated for several years on Willow Street in Johnson City. The business closed with short notice in September 2020 prior to the property's sale to Binghamton University. The building that had housed that restaurant was torn down last July.
Tran said a lot of work has gone into the renovating the site of the new restaurant, which is just west of Binghamton City Hall. She said the downtown district has become a "melting pot" that now features "so much culture."
The restaurant's name Pho Nomenal is a play on the word "pho" - a Vietnamese soup.
The eatery will have seating for about 60 people. Outdoor seating also will be available when weather permits. The restaurant will be open every day except Tuesday.
