The NFL is approaching its 5th week and as the better teams start to define themselves, I thought I’d take a look back at our three New York franchised NFL teams.
Part One: The New York Jets

Originally called the Titans and founded in 1958, the current name The Jets was taken in 1963.

During the teams 51 years they have been to the play offs 14 times, with five AFC championship games in 1968, 1982, 1998, 2009 and 2010 and only one victory in Superbowl 3 over the Baltimore Colts.

Their top QB throughout the years Joe Namath, Super Bowl MVP in 1969 with a 16-7 upset over the Colts, he is also the Jets all time Pass leader with 27,057 yards.

The Jets Top Rusher is Curtis Martin (1998-2005) with 10,302 yards

Don Maynard is the franchises top receiver with 11,732 yards

The Jets Winningest Coach with 71 wins is Weeb Ewbank (who?)

The Jets went 12 years without making the playoffs from the 1969 season to the 1981 season.

New York Jet fans have waited a generation for their team to return to the big show, it’s been 45 years and the chances of a championship this year, are not looking so good with a 1 and 3 record.

I feel for the fans, most of whom don’t even remember the “The Guarantee”

What will it take for a NY Jet Super Bowl victory? The sporting world may never know.
