The Bobby Fuller Four had a top ten hit with the song in 1966, if you’re thinking it sounds a little Buddy Holly-Ish, there’s a good reason, Sonny Curtis from Buddy’s band the crickets wrote the song and recorded it on their album, after the death of Buddy Holly.

In 1978 the cover version helped gain the Clash their first taste of airplay in the States and is one of the best-known cover versions of the song.
