This is without any doubt, my favorite time of the year. I love Christmastime. I love hot chocolate and sappy movies, I love shopping and I love decorating, but most of all, I love sending time with the people I love and what better way to celebrate the magic of the season than with an outdoor festival of lights?!?

Each year in December, the Village of Owego comes to life with twinkling lights, activities for kids young and old, musical entertainment, and a pretty spectacular fireworks show at the end of the night. The festivites are all part of 'Lights on the River' and this year, the fun happens on Friday, December 6.

The fun will begin at 4:00 p.m. with activities through town, and you definitely won't want to miss Santa's big flip switch, which will light up the village for the holiday season. The big flip switch will happen at exactly 5:59 p.m. in Courthouse Square.

Most restaurants and shops in the village will be open for business so this means you'll be able to enjoy delicious foods or you might like to pick up some holiday food from one of the many non-profit organizations that will have tables set up. There will also be hot chocolate, hot cider, soup, cookies, and more.

The kids will be able to see live reindeer and write a special letter to Santa. You'll also be able to enjoy music through the village, as well as a juggler! Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance, too.

Many of the downtown Owego businesses will also be offering specials and discounts during Lights on the River and the night will end with a big fireworks display over the river at 8:00 p.m.
