Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Southern Tier Close Up
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Director of the Crime Victim's Assistance Center in Binghamton, Raini Baudendistel is the guest on the weekly, local public affairs program Southern Tier Close Up to talk about how this year's observance has been different.
Baudendistel says there is a growing conversation about domestic and interrelation violence in all its forms over the past few years and growing support for a variety of programs in the government, academic and private sectors.
CVAC and three other local groups at the beginning of the month were on hand for the announcement of $82,000 in New York State funding for domestic violence services. Much of that focus, according to Baudendistel, is on education and awareness.
Residents may have also noticed a number of landmark buildings, like the Binghamton University Bartle Library Tower lit purple in support and to raise awareness.
Anyone in a situation where they may need help or just want some information, including from professional lawyers now on-staff at Crime Victims Assistance Center, can call the hotline at (607) 722-4256. Information on the agency and programs can be found online at www.cvac.us.
Southern Tier Close Up is heard Sunday at 6 am on 99.1 Sunday at 6 am on 99.1 The Whale.
