A Binghamton CVS Pharmacy that's been in operation for decades is being shut down.

Signs posted at the CVS store at 68 Main Street indicate the place will close on Saturday. It opened its doors in 1982.

It's not known how many people now work at the location, which is next door to the abandoned Masonic Temple building and less than two blocks west of Binghamton High School. Some employees will be transferred to other CVS stores.

CVS corporate representatives did not respond to a request for information about the decision to close the store.

One longtime customer was disappointed by the company's decision to shut the place down but she wasn't surprised.

The woman, who moved to Binghamton from Texas in 1987, said "this is a ghetto store." She said the neighborhood was nice when she moved to the city.

The Murray Street resident said conditions have deteriorated drastically in the last 30 years with more crime and drug-related problems.

The woman said Binghamton is "like the Twilight Zone. Once you move here, you can't get out."
