A town of Union developer is moving forward on his plans to build nearly 30 townhouses on property he first tried to acquire more than two decades ago.

Mike Malarkey said he expects groundbreaking for the "Leisure Village Senior Living" project to get underway in May.

28 townhouse units are to be constructed by Malarkey Building & Remodeling on about five acres of land adjacent to a cemetery off Newell Road in Endwell. He said he made his initial offer to buy the site back in 1997 and recently closed on the property.

Malarkey said he's received "great response" from people interested in living in the development. He said each townhouse will have two bedrooms and a two-car garage.

Malarkey said the first units should be ready to be occupied in about six months. He expects it will take about two years to complete the project.
