Conklin Man Accused of Stealing More than $21,000

State police have charged a Conklin resident with grand larceny for taking money that was intended to pay for repairs to a truck damaged in a crash.

Authorities say 39-year-old James Underhill was arrested Tuesday following an investigation that began last month.

Investigators say they were advised that Underhill had cashed two checks totaling more than $21,000. The checks were to be used to cover repair costs on a vehicle that had been involved in a crash almost one year ago.

Troopers had been advised that the damaged truck was still at Underhill's repair shop and had not been worked on.

Underhill faces a count of third-degree grand larceny, a felony. He was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail on $1,000 bail.
