Have you often thought "I'd love to help out a charity and make a difference."? Most people think about it, but don't act. Maybe it's because we don't know where to start or how to make the time. Since the flood, more people do take part, but it's hard to find the right fit.

I was always taught to live by the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Good rule to live by and it certainly gives you karma points.

Well, here's the chance to explore your options and learn in the process!

The BLI Alumni Association, the United Way of Broome County and other organizations have set up the 4th Annual Community Service Fair, set for November 1st at the BU Downtown Center in Binghamton. From 4 to 6 pm you can talk to the many organizations that need volunteers.

No matter what your schedule, I will bet you can find the right place to help out.

Need a reason to volunteer? How about this: volunteers have better overall health than those who don't volunteer. It reduces stress, risk of heart issues and depression, among other things. (Thanks Americorps)! So, selfishly, helping others helps you.

For more information, including a list of organizations that will be present at the Fair, visit the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce.
